Permanent Protection of Irreplaceable Rainforests
Indonesia’s last remaining rainforests are disappearing faster than ever. Critical for biodiversity and climate stability, these lowland and riverine forests face immediate threats from unsustainable agriculture such as palm oil, mining, logging, and encroachment.
Once these forests are lost, the wildlife and ecosystems they support cannot be restored.
The most effective action we can take right now is to secure the land before it is permanently lost.
Why Securing Land Matters
Land acquisition allows us to secure legal control of threatened rainforests and is the fastest and most effective way to protect it before it is cleared. In doing so, these lands can be permanently safeguarded, restored, and managed for conservation in partnership with local communities.
This approach secures habitat for Critically Endangered species, protects carbon-rich forests that are vital for climate stability, and conserves ecosystems for the long-term. By combining legal protection with on-the-ground stewardship, we can reduce deforestation and support forest communities to become enduring guardians of these forests.

WCI’s Land Acquisition Fund
Opportunities to secure land are time-sensitive: once licenses or forest parcels are offered, we must act quickly or they risk being permanently lost.
To secure these landscapes, and others that may emerge with little or no notice, we have established a dedicated Land Acquisition Fund. The purpose of the Fund is simple: To maintain a ready pool of capital that enables immediate action when licenses or land parcels become available.
